Meet the Huntsman
Heather Player
Heather Player became Norfolk's professional huntsman in the spring of 2014. Heather has 20 years of experience working in foxhunting environments in Massachusetts and Virginia. An elegant and accomplished rider, Heather served as an honorary whipper-in with Norfolk prior to becoming the Club's huntsman.

Heather has a strong understanding of drag foxhounds and drag hunting, combined with a tremendous respect for the tradition of the sport. She is a graduate of the 2011 MFHA Professional Development Program; her mentor was Andrew Barclay, retired huntsman of Green Springs Valley Hounds. Prior to her position with Norfolk, Heather ran her own business as a trainer of field hunters. Heather worked at the Myopia Hunt Club, spending four years as a professional whipper-in and as acting huntsman for the fall 2010 formal season. Heather attended the equine studies program at Mt. Ida College.

As Norfolk's huntsman, Heather is responsible for the day-to-day care of the hounds, including their ongoing training for fitness and obedience. Heather carries the horn and is in charge of the hounds when they hunt. In the hunt field, Heather immediately follows the hounds, in front of the Masters of Foxhounds.

The Master of Foxhounds in charge of the Norfolk kennels is Owen Hughes, MFH.
